This is a very exciting new supplement that looks to have great muscle building potential.
Methoxyisoflavone (also known as 5-methyl-7-methoxyisoflavone and Methoxy7) is an anabolic compound that builds
muscle mass by putting the body in an anabolic state. If the body is in an anabolic state it is using
protein to build muscle mass. Our body is always going back and forth between anabolic and
catabolic states. The more the body is in an anabolic state - the more muscle mass you can
put on.
Whenever we evaluate a new muscle building supplement we ask certain key questions:
Does it put the body in an anabolic state?
If so, does it increase estrogen levels and have androgenic effects?
Is it safe and effective?
Has it been studied?
Here is what we have found related to Methoxy Isoflavone:
Does it put the body in an anabolic state?
Yes, research indicates that Methoxyisoflavone does increase protein synthesis. If a supplement
can increase protein synthesis (and nitrogen retention) it is said to be anabolic. This is
important to anyone looking to build muscle mass because if your body is in an anabolic state
you are going to build muscle at a rapid rate.
If so, does it increase estrogen levels and have androgenic effects?
This is the key question. We all know that steroids put the body in an anabolic state, HOWEVER, they
also increase estrogen levels. This can lead to nasty side effects like male-pattern baldness, enlarged prostate,
gynecomastia, acne and liver damage.
Research indicates that Methoxy does NOT lead to increased estrogen levels and androgenic side effects.
In fact it has been shown to reduce body fat, lower cholesterol, and improve the body's ability to utilize oxygen.
Now, those are some "side effects" which we would all like to experience!
Is it safe and effective?
As stated above, Methoxy does look to be safe and effective. As always, you should check with your
Doctor before starting any supplement program. Methoxy Isoflavone should not be used by pregnant
or lactating women. In addition, we do not believe that people under the age of 18 should take
this supplement.
Has it been studied?
Most of the initial studies on Methoxy Isoflavone were with animals. Human studies are now underway to
back up some of the very impressive claims. The history of this supplement explains why studies have
not happened quickly. Methoxy was patented by a Hungarian company in 1977. Unfortunately, they never
did anything with the patent. They simply stated it was a revolutionary bodybuilding supplement and then
just disappeared. In 1997 the patent ran out and now many supplement companies are discovering the benefits
of Methoxy Isoflavone (Methoxy 7).
We would like to see more human studies done - and some are currently underway. At this point, we
will not make the incredible claims that other companies are making (more powerful than steroids without
the negative side effects). We believe more research is necessary before those claims can be made. We do
feel that Methoxy Isoflavone can be very beneficial to any person that is looking to put on some extra
muscle mass without negative side effects.
